Last night Danielle tweeted something that I have been thinking about for a while now: comments left on your blog. Don’t get me (or us) wrong, I love comments. I love reading what you all think about my posts and similar situations you’ve found yourself in. Most of all, I like knowing that not only my mother reads this blog.
But what really pisses me off is when I put a lot of thought and time into a post and then some douchewad comes and essentially posts about them self. “Please follow me back and don’t forget to enter my giveaway”. Really? No.
When you comment on a blog you should have a real comment. Generally mine are somewhat humorous, Lara can attest to this, but they show that I’ve read the damn post. Don’t want to read the whole post? Then don’t freaking comment. It’s rude and doesn’t help to build a good rapport with the blogger as a legitimate follower.
I’ve been getting more and more of these comments lately and I’m tempted to delete them because they’re just sad and I don’t think that essentially spamming bloggers should be a way you get more traffic to your site. You think that’s mean? Well screw you. I work really hard and spend a lot of time following bloggers I love and leaving meaningful comments hoping they might one day read my blog or their readers might (assuming they were into my comment. Again, no shameless self-promotion).
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you aren’t helping yourself by the senseless commenting all over the blogosphere, but merely solidifying your status as an annoying spam blogger. But hey, if that’s what you’re into. Just please do me a favor and don’t bring your giveaways and pleas for following around here.
Agree! Enough with the self promotion, the blog world is about showing support, not competition for more followers.
I’m going to go ahead and raise my imaginary glass of wine to this. I’m so sick of people talking about their giveaways in my comments with just “Nice pictures!” Thanks. I know they’re nice. That’s why I posted them in the first place. Ugh. Or they read the first sentence and not the rest of the post and completely miss the meaning of the writing. It irks me. ESPECIALLY when it’s on a post that I’m super passionate about. Drives. Me. Bonkers. Ugh.
Here here MG! I don’t get much of that round my little ‘ol blog, but it really is so tacky, and I hate seeing it in the comments on other people’s blogs. For the record, I love READING your witty posts and would never think of just scrolling to the bottom.
Not mean at all very true!
i agree. i would rather someone not post then make me feel like they are using me for a billboard.
i am awesome. but don’t use me. i hate that.
Ugh the absolute worst. Totally agree – if you don’t have something genuine to say, then don’t comment. Your comments are my recent favorite – totally hysterical.
Couldn’t agree more. I have one particular commenter that only appears when she has a giveaway going on. Not interested.
Preach it sister. Or the comments that ask a question that was clearly answered in the post…. that makes me crazy. Or ALL THE COMMENTS AND EMAILS asking me how I edit my pictures when I JUST did a whole post about that, to avoid ALL THE COMMENTS AND EMAILS. I’m not bitter or anything.
Just came across your blog. This is the first post I have read, and I can already tell I like you. Great post. Way to put it out there.
Oh and by the way…come check out my giveaway!!!! And follow me on Facebook. And Twitter. And….just kidding. I am not doing a giveaway.
OMGGGGGGGGG…..YES! If someone new leaves a thoughtful comment followed by I’m following you now…I will check out there blog. The ones who comment but comment with follow me? follow me back? my giveaway can go away.
All over this!
Yes. Drives me crazy. Especially when what’s written in the text has nothing to do with whatever image is in the post and they say “so pretty, love it” when what I’m talking about is actually sad and upsetting. Happens on my fit blog ALL THE TIME.
I always try to make an effort to comment something with substance when I can. If I’m new to the blog I will tell them so, but I would never say please come follow me. <---- not why I blog. AT ALL.
Fact, fact and fact. I hate when people spam my blog with a giveaway or just a URL to their blog. At least *try* to make an effort. It’s most definitely irritating.
Agree, agree, AGREE!!! I wish everyone could read this post!
OMG this is the first time I have been to your blog. I love your honesty… this was the first post I read! Thanks for making me laugh out loud haha!
omg. THANK you. thank you. Could not agree with you more. I don’t get it either? Ok, so I’ll follow you and never look at your blog again. Is that all you want?? Easy enough.
Yes, yes, and yes! It is so annoying + frustrating. Same goes for the “I love your blog, it is so great, let’s follow eachother?” “Follow me,” “enter my giveaway,” “let’s follow eachother, hugs!”
Ummm no, thanks!!!!
